The fall season is a great time to go hunting and fishing so the Division of Wildlife Resources took time to speak with Castle Country Radio to give a fishing update and to share details about an upcoming Youth Pheasant Hunt.

“So this is the exciting time of year for all of us. If we’re not out working, which we’re very busy right now, like you said with the hunts and also with fishing and other different activities, then we as employees like to take some time off and get out and enjoy the outdoors as well. Fall is the perfect time of year,” said Conservation Outreach Manager, Aaron Bott. The DWR have been very busy conducting their gill netting surveys up around Scofield and Joe’s Valley.

The cooler temperatures and crisp air make for great temperatures and conditions to do some fall fishing.  “Scofield is always doing well, specifically at this time of year things seem to be doing great. The water is low, lower than we would like but the fishing seems to be doing pretty good. People are giving us great reports. But if you go up over the Energy Loop some of those other water bodies are also fun to fish right now,” stated Bott. The Kokanee Salmon are running at Electric Lake till mid-October so that is always fun to observe.

For the fly fisherman there have been great reports up Huntington River. “I’ve gotten some great reports up Huntington Canyon along the river. There’s some blue-ribbon fly-fishing opportunities right up along that Huntington Creek and we encourage you to get out if you’ve never been fly fishing to have a go at it,” said Bott. This is an ideal time to take on the sport as the scenery is beautiful with all the fall leaves changing.

There is a Youth Pheasant Hunt coming up on October 29 and registration will take place on https://www.eventbrite.com/ in the next week or so. “This is really a beginners hunt that we cater to the youth. We provide dogs, you just have to come with a parent or guardian, have your own firearm, and of course have passed your hunters education. But we go out in the morning this will be on October 29, and we’re going to be a Desert Lake in Emery County and we’ll go shoot some pheasants so it’ll be a great time,” explained Bott. More details of the event can be found on https://www.eventbrite.com/ or you can call the DWR office in Price at (435) 613-3700.
