Cross country teams from around southern and eastern Utah traveled to Moab on Wednesday for the Red Rock Invitational at the Moab Golf Course.  Both Carbon and Emery posted great finishes for both the boys and girls. Carbon boys grabbed first and the girls took the second. For Emery both teams claimed a third place finish.

Carbon’s boys team claimed first place overall with 28 points, Richfield was in second with 44. Emery (67), Monticello (101) and Grand (147) rounded out the top five.

Individually it was Richfield’s Richard Crane turning in a time of 17:15.42 who claimed first place. Braxton Ware of Carbon (17:33.65) was second. Garrett Black and Easton Humes of Carbon finished in third and fourth and Jack Christiansen of Emery came in fifth.

Carbon had a log jam at the top with Ware, Black and Humes. Sean Stromness (7) and Nathan Engar (12) rounded out Carbon’s top finishers.

For the Spartans, Jack Christiansen was their top finisher followed by Merritt Mecarriello, who finished right behind him in sixth. Mason Stewart (10), Hayden Christiansen (19) and Monty Christiansen (28) all finished in Emery’s top five.

Host team Grand earned first place on the girl’s side with a score of 31. Carbon was just behind with 33. Emery (72), Richfield (113) and Whitehorse (133) made up the rest of the top five.

For the girls once again it was Carbon’s Rozlyn Stowe who took the No. 1 spot overall. Cadence Kasprick and Ainsleigh Kasprick of Grand took second and third with Addie Hurst of Emery and Lindsie Fausett of Carbon claiming fourth and fifth.

Stowe’s top finish was followed by Fausett. Ambree Jones (6), Sophie Taylor (9) and Ellie Hanson (16) rounded out Carbon’s top finishers.

Hurst was Emery’s top placer followed by Kallee Cook in 13th. Carlie Hurst (18), Kallee Lake (24) and Kylee Willis (27) all finished inside the Spartan top five.

Both teams will compete next week at North Sanpete.
