The Bureau of Land Management is seeking nominations for the San Rafael Swell Recreation Area Advisory Council, which makes recommendations to the Secretary of the Interior for managing these unique public lands in east central Utah. The selectee will fill one existing vacancy on the seven-seat Council.

“Preserving natural and cultural resources are values of the San Rafael Swell Recreation Area Advisory Council,” said Green River District Manager Lance Porter. “Having a Tribal member as part of the council would bring knowledge, experience and perspective that would strengthen management through co-stewardship.”

The John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act, Section 1223, directed the Secretary of the Interior to establish the Council to help prepare and implement the management plan for the San Rafael Swell Recreation Area. Congress created the San Rafael Swell Recreation Area to provide for the protection, conservation and enhancement of the recreational, cultural, natural, scenic, wildlife, ecological, historical and educational resources of the area. Council members serve three-year terms.
