The Second Annual Giving Bowl Flag Football Tournament will take place on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 8:30 am at the USU Eastern Soccer Field. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Event Representatives, Patty and Allie Smith to get all the details.

This is the second year for the Giving Bowl that was started by a Sterling Scholar candidate, as Patty Smith explains, “Actually my son, he came up with the idea and we kind of ran with it. He was a Sterling Scholar for Carbon High last year and they had to have service hours, and he came up with the idea that he wanted to help people in need for Thanksgiving. So we decided, he decided, we needed to throw a flag football tournament. We had so much fun, and it was such a success, that we decided to do it again.” The one-day tournament will be held at the USU Eastern Soccer Field just north of the USU Eastern campus.

The organizers are currently registering teams to participate. “So you can have 5 to 7 players on your team, and the games are 5 on 5. The cost per player is $5.00 and there’s a middle school aged bracket, a high school aged bracket and a 19 and up adult bracket,” said Allie Smith. All money raised will provide Thanksgiving dinner to families in need. Last year, the event was able to purchase over 600 pounds of food and were able to feed over 20 families and donated $250.00 to Carbon Caring for Kids. This would not have been possible without the participation of all the teams and players.

“There are trophies for each division and we’ve had some amazing support from local businesses so we have a great prize packet. We have some bowling passes, some restaurants have donated gift certificates, ax throwing, just a lot, movie passes. Are prize packet is pretty awesome for the winners,” explained Patty Smith. There will be a winner determined in each division.
