Beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, friend to all who knew her, Alverta Marie McClure Dickerson, 88, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on November 12, 2022 at Heirloom Inn. She was born on November 27, 1933 in Kimball, West Virginia to Roscoe and Stella McClure. She married the love of her life, James (Jimmy) W. Dickerson in Skygusty, West Virginia, on Sept. 28, 1951. Together, they migrated to many places across the country, turning every house into a home before eventually settling in Carbon County in 1970.

Alverta had many passions in her life, her first and foremost being her loving devotion to her husband and family. She took great joy in over-spoiling her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at every opportunity. She was famous for her southern cooking, and the family always looked forward to her roasts, fried fish, biscuits and gravy. She and Jimmy enjoyed many camping and fishing trips together and took great pride in making their yard the envy of the neighborhood. Alverta was a self-taught master of crochet and produced many beautiful treasures for friends and family. She was also an avid reader and immaculate housekeeper. She had a great love for animals and had many pets throughout her life. She had a particular fondness for birds, which would visit her daily in her yard. Her legacy of love, humor and kindness will be cherished for generations to come.

Survived by her daughter, Charlotte (Scott) MacKnight of Price; grandson, Kevin (Mariann) Pero of Clinton, UT; granddaughter Kelly (Jess) Valdez of Price; great-grandaughters, Gianna and Alyssa Valdez; and great-grandsons, Ethan, Dylan, Carson and Alexander Pero; other special family members; Kira MacKnight, Corina Norried, Jarett and Nick Zamantakis; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jimmy; brother, Robert McClure; sister, Betty Day; and daughter, Nancy Dickerson.

The family will hold a private celebration of  life at a later date. A special thank you to the staff of Heirloom Inn, who always treated her like their own family. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Carbon County Animal Shelter in Alverta’s name would be greatly appreciated.  Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
