The Carbon Dino boys basketball team returned to the court for the first time since February’s loss to Judge Memorial in the state championships. It’s a brand new year, and with one starter returning from last years squad the Dinos are re-loaded and ready to go and showed that with a 61-44 road win over Delta.

Last season, Carbon finished one game under .500 but held a 6-2 record in Region 12 play which was good enough for second place. Carrying the No.14 into the playoffs, the Dinos lost their opening round meeting with Judge Memorial.

In the contest on Wednesday night, Carbon came out the aggressors, junior Zeke Wilson got things going with a steal and then found senior Cole Cripps for a lay-up in the opening quarter to put the Dinos on the board. The score was 14-0 when Delta’s Tate Topham finally took the lid of the basket for a three pointer, Carbon owned the opening quarter however, outscoring the Rabbits 18-5.

The second quarter was played a lot tighter, as both teams would go back and forth and Delta would outpace the Dinos in the quarter 14-12. Wilson was the leading scoring at the half with 11.

Cai Henderson would start off the third quarter for the Rabbits with a a corner three. But the Dinos were able to add a little more distance in the third and moving into the fourth matched the Rabbits point for point to hold on and take the 61-44 win.

Wilson led the way for the Dinos scoring 19 and grabbing six rebounds, Cripps added 14 while ripping down 9 boards and Chet Anderson added 12 going three-of-four from the charity stripe.

The Dinos will be back on the floor on Friday night in Roosevelt to take on Union.

Tuesday they will have their first home game against North Sanpete, in a game you can listen to on KRPX 95.3 The Peak. You can also stream the action castlecountryradio.com.
