obits1-29

Joan Louise Hixon Stewart, age 84, peacefully returned to her heavenly home on November 23, 2022 after suffering years with a lingering illness.

Joan was born on January 6, 1938 in Cle Elum, Washington to George Robert and Florance Isabel Barnes Hixon. She would then later marry, J Birchell Stewart in Ely, Nevada on April 29, 1955. He preceded her in death on March 16, 2003.

Joan was a strong advocate for better mental health treatments and facilities; especially treatment for those who suffered with a mental health disease. She worked tirelessly in her younger years with PAAG (Problems Anonymous Action Group) sponsored by Weber County Mental Health trying to provide houses and socialization for mental ill residents. Joan always wanted to help everyone whom she came in contact with; she could not stand to see another’s need and to not do something about it.

Joan is survived by her children, Jayann Stewart Goodman, Jay Kevan Stewart, and James Robert Stewart, along with their spouses; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, J Birchell Stewart; parents, Bob and Florance Hixon; great-grandson, Carlisle Visser; two sisters; two brothers; in-laws, “J” Buck and Peggy Stewart; and one sister-in-law.

PRIVATE FAMILY FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD. Following the service Joan will be buried next to her beloved husband, J Birchell Stewart in the Valley View Cemetery, Sunnyside, Utah. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price and Huntington where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Joan online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
