The Lady Spartans started out the season splitting their first to games with Juan Diego and Judge Memorial and on Tuesday they were on the road to take on the Delta Rabbits. They game itself was a lot closer than the final score indicates, but when the buzzer sounded, Emery walked away with the 62-50 win.

Delta ended last season against the Spartans, who handed the Rabbits a 68-40 loss in the second round of the state playoffs.

Emery started the first quarter quietly, and after four quick points from the Rabbits, Coach Jon Faimalo was forced to take an early time out. The break must have worked because the Lady Spartans came out, set up their offense and found Alexia Mortensen open for a three-pointer. Emery pushed their way through the first quarter taking a 14-9 lead. The Rabbits came out in the second quarter cutting into the Spartan lead and found themselves up by one 21-20, the Spartans were able to regain the lead and went into the half up 30-25.

In the second half, the Rabbits came out on fire scoring 18 and whittling down the Spartan lead to just one 44-43, and that must have been a wake-up call for Emery as they took charge both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, holding Delta to just seven points and scoring 18 to close out the Rabbits 62-50.

Katelyn Nielson led the way for Emery with 18 followed by Mortensen who added 11 and Brielle Rowley who scored 10.

Next up is a long weekend in Vernal as they will face Uintah on Thursday night in their opening round of the Uintah Tournament.

They will return to the Spartan Center on Thursday, December 8 to face South Sevier in a contest that will be broadcast on KOAL 107.3 FM or 750 AM.
