The USU Eastern Theater Department will be hard at work developing a production within 24 hours to show community members on Dec. 3 at the USU Eastern Peterson Black Box Theatre. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with a few members of the department to find out about this unique concept.

“Well, we will start at 6:00 pm, Friday evening, and we will brainstorm through ideas about what we could possibly write a show about, and the show is usually only 30 minutes long, we could go longer. But then we will sit down for the whole night, hopped up on caffeine and then write out a script and cast it from there,” said Ben Peterson. This is a great way for students to be creative, rehearse and perform in 24 hours, all the while learning a lot about the theater process.

The production will be shared with community members on Saturday evening twice, beginning at 7:30 pm, and then again at 9:00 pm. Ticket prices are explained by Morgan Innes, “So adult prices is $15.00, $10.00 for senior, $8.00 for USU Faculty/Staff/Alumni, and then students that are high school, middle school $10.00, and then USU Students are $3.00.” Again, the play will be shown at the USU Eastern Peterson Black Box Theatre located inside the CIB Building.

All proceeds earned from the event will go towards the Theatre Department’s travel expenses for their Canada tour. “So we are taking our next show, after the 24 hour show, on tour. This is Sherwood: The Adventures of Robin Hood and we have a few locations up in southern Alberta, Canada and as well as some places in Logan that we are going to take it. So the money from the ticket sales of the 24 hour show are going to go to fund to feed the students who are going on tour, to get hotel rooms for them and that kind of thing,” said Mary Thayne. The production of Ken Ludwig’s Sherwood – The Adventures of Robin Hood will be shown on January 9 through 12 and January 18 through 21, 2023 at the Geary Event Center on the campus of USU Eastern.
