Dean Nelson, 95, passed away January 16, 2023 at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City after a brief illness.

He was born October 18, 1927 in Price, UT to Melroy and Clarissa Jones Nelson. He married Carleen Scholin on August 01, 1953 in Minden, NV and together they raised three wonderful children.

He honorably served in The United States Navy for many years and retired in 1976 as a master

chief electronics technician. After retiring from the Navy, he moved his family back to Price where he was raised. He opened a TV repair service for a few years. He then decided to be a mail carrier for another few years. His need to accomplish more led him to continue his education at CEU and the University of Utah where he received his degree. After his college years, he went back to CEU to teach electronics and hydraulics. He later left CEU to work for Peabody Coal Company as their training manager until his final retirement in 1989. He spent his retirement years alongside his loving family, enjoying numerous family activities.

Dean had many hobbies and was extremely talented at whatever he set his mind to. He enjoyed deep sea fishing, hunting deer and elk, and golfing. Dean also cherished his time spent bowling with the local senior’s league every week. Above all, he had a special place in his heart for boating along Lake Powell and Lake Mead. He loved to spend time there fishing, camping, and boating with his family.

Dean is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Carleen Nelson; daughter, Linda (Frank) Marrelli, Helper, UT; son, Michael (Felicia) Nelson, Golden Valley, AZ; grandchildren, Denelle Nelson, Williams, AZ, Michael JD (Tayler) Nelson, Williams, AZ, Brianna (Sam) Craw, West Jordan, Utah, Alicia (Brandon Olsen) Marrelli, Kenilworth, UT, Kayla (Patrick) McCarron, Williams, AZ, Randi (Ryan) Dennis, Cleveland, UT, Mikie (Matt) Nelson, Waldport, OR; also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, and one on the way; his brother, Bruce (Ann) Nelson; two sisters, Marie Durney, and Rhea Bearnson; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; son, Dean Roy Nelson; sisters, Doris Bruno, Norma Bond; brother, Lynn Nelson; and in-laws, Pete Bruno,  Carl Durney, Edith Nelson, Aaron Bond and Jim Bearnson.

Funeral Service, Saturday, January 28, 2023, 11:00 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main St. Price, UT), where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Visitation, Friday, January 27, 2023, 5:00-7:00 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery in Price with military honors.
