Elva Leora Davis Hansen,92, died January 28, 2023 at her home. She was born December 12, 1930 in Cleveland Utah to Thomas Lamar Davis and Nettie Jane Oveson Davis. Grandma was the last of three girls to be born. When she wasn’t tending to the farm or riding her horse Sweetheart in Bull Holler, you could find her playing softball or with a book in her hand.

She met the man she wanted to marry in the third or fourth grade. Grandma was a strong-willed person, who always had a mind of her own and she knew Aron Hansen was who she wanted to spend her life with. They were married once she finished high school, May 28, 1949.

Aron and Leora made their home in Elmo, Utah and continued the family tradition of farming on south Flat in Cleveland, getting their four kids involved and then their grandkids. Eventually, their farming took a turn and they got into the sheep business. Granny  absolutely loved the sheep. She also loved the family get togethers that happened because of the shearing and lambing. It was all about family on the farm.

Granny was a wonderful cook. Though she would have rather been outside than inside cooking, her food was still something to rave about. Her lamb stew, cookies, roast with mashed potatoes, spaghetti, and various other dishes are something we still all strive to emulate. Needless to say, you could be sure you’d walk away well fed— whether you were shearing sheep, celebrating a holiday, or just attending Sunday dinner.

Though Granny’s passion was family and farming, Granny also found herself employed at Cleveland Elementary for over 15 years as a teacher’s aide. Even in her employment, Granny managed to keep an eye on the grandkids. She helped 11 of us grandkids through kindergarten and first grade before she retired. She also spent 15 years doing the laundry at Turnquist and always seemed to enjoy the time with the residents there.

Granny was gifted in the art of crochet. She made sure there were doilies in the hope chests for weddings and baby booties for little Hansen feet.

After Aron passed away in 2001, Granny had to adjust to a new way of life. Granny was still a solid presence in our lives, even when she didn’t get out as much. She still managed to keep family holiday events going for a number of years with the help of Caleen. Family traditions were important to her and she kept up on them as long as she could.

Granny was a stable rock in our lives and she will leave a void that is impossible to fill. We will hold our memories of her forever close to our hearts. We are a family truly blessed to have had her as an anchor point for so many years.

Granny is survived by her children Lamar (Jean) Hansen, Chris Hansen, Caleen (Butch) Wilcox, and David Hansen; grandkids Tom (Deanna) Hansen, Holly (Gill) Peay, Heather (Kelly) Warr, Mindy (DeVon) Averett, Aron Jim (Ashlee) Hansen, Ben (Sarah) Hansen, Bryant (Monica) Hansen, Brandon (Kimberly) Hansen, Bret (Crystal) Hansen, Cassi (Joshua) Stanchfield, Carter (BreAnna) Robinson, Calli (Kelly) Mortensen, Amber (James) Liin, Cord (Tatum) Hansen, Schaly (Clark) Ungerman; many great-grandkids, and  great-great-grandkids.
