The USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum is hosting the Castle Country Community Art Show on Mar. 3 till Mar. 8. Organizers are currently looking for local submissions and will be accepting items on Feb. 23 through Feb. 25 at the museum lobby. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with the Head of Exhibits, Christopher Henderson to get all the details.

“So we’ll be accepting submissions Feb. 23 through Feb. 25 and we’re looking for any kind of artwork and handy craft that is produced by people here in Eastern Utah. Eastern Utah has such a great tradition of art and culture, and we’re proud to be able to celebrate that with our annual art show,” said Henderson. Submissions can be from amateur or professional artists. When you bring in your items you will be required to complete a submission form for each item you plan to have displayed in the show. The museum is located at 155 East Main Street.

Items for the show can include the usual photography, painting, and sculpture, but they have also opened it up to textile art. “So we are accepting alongside painting, drawing and photography, sculpture and traditional mediums of fine art, we also want to accept and display works of handy-craft – we would love to see a quilt, that would be great. But any type of work that requires attention to detail, and skill to produce, and expressive that’s what we want to display,” explained Henderson. Textile art can include sewing, knitting, beading and macrame. The museum will create labels for each piece featuring the artist name, medium, and if applicable, selling price set by the artist.

There is an exciting exhibit that is in the works for this summer and Henderson gave a bit of a teaser on it, “Its an exciting exhibit that we’ll be developing in-house at the Prehistoric Museum. Probably on the scale of Horns & Tusks, and it’s an exciting story that not too many people know. But we will be introducing people here in Carbon County to their most famous resident, in some sense.” More details will be shared as the summer months approach.
