Monty Christiansen made his way through the Divisional Round of the 3A boys A group with an unblemished record, a perfect 3-0 in the 106-pound weight class claiming first place. In all Emery claimed four second-place finishes and five fifth-place finishes and at the end of the two-day tournament, 15 Spartans punched their ticket to the State Championships.
At the Divisional, anyone who finished in eighth place or higher would earn their place in the state tournament.
Christiansen was joined at 106 by Dixon Peacock with a fifth-place finish as well. The Spartans had two qualifiers in the 113-pound weight class as Corbin Jensen earned a second-place finish and Brayson World landed in fifth.
Derrick Birch went 3-2 in the 120-pound class to earn a fifth-place finish and at 126 Merritt Meccariello earned a second-place finish and Mason Hurdsman eighth. At 132, Hayden Christiansen finished in fifth, and at 144 Dalton Birch took seventh.
Boden Christman earned a fifth-place finish at 150 pounds, and Hazen Meccariello at 157 pounds took another fifth place.
The 165-weight class had Devon Byars earning a sixth-place spot while at 175 Greg Suwyn continued his great season with a second-place finish.
And finally, at 285 the Spartans were able to qualify two wrestlers as Easton Thornley finished in second place and Joshua Howard took seventh.
Emery will now wait until next week, February 15 & 16, when they will travel to Richfield for the 3A State Championships.
