It’s time to catch up with Elmo City Mayor James Winn, who took time from his busy schedule to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio about annexation, city dumpsters and Easter Egg event.

The city recently held its City Council Meeting where annexation was discussed. “We’re trying to create a process for annexation so that we, not know what to do when its time to annex something in. There’s a piece of property that’s in our town, that’s kind of surrounded by the city, so this man really wants to annex them in, so that’s its just part of the city, so all his land is in the city,” stated Mayor Winn. Right now, city officials are developing a checklist for annexation so that they can be sure it’s done appropriately.

Folks may have noticed that the city dumpsters have been locked up for a bit this is due to the muddy conditions surrounding that area. “We had to lock them up, I went down there last Saturday and there was just a big mud hole there so if anybody drove in there, they might get stuck. Definitely, the semis hauling off the dumpsters would get stuck. So we’re just going to close them till further notice,” explained Mayor Winn. Once the ground starts to dry up a bit, the dumpsters will be re-opened and available for use.

The city is currently working on cemetery records to better accommodate visitors and historians. “We’re starting to get the information gathered together to make our cemetery information more accessible and accurate. We just have a lot of questions that people call up when they are looking for loved ones – maybe it’s for genealogy or whatever. Just being able to tell them where people are at, that kind of thing,” said Mayor Winn. Once this project is completed the city council will acknowledge it at an upcoming city council meeting.

Mark your calendars for the city’s annual Easter Egg Hunt as Mayor Winn shares details, “We started an Easter Egg Hunt a couple of years ago so we’re just trying to make it an annual thing. So on March 31 at 5:30 pm at Elmo Park, we’re going to have an Easter Egg Hunt for all the kids to come out and have a good time finding some Easter Eggs.” If you would like to make a donation towards the event contact city hall.
