Wade Stilson, Brett Rasmussen and Luke Justice of the Emery Spartan basketball team earned All-State nods for their efforts on the basketball court in the 2022-2023 season. The Deseret News All-State teams were published Thursday and are based on coaches votes from a list of nominated players.

Emery finished the season 17-6 overall which included a 7-1 Region 12 mark finishing in first place. Going into the State Championships they held the No. 3 spot, giving them a first round bye. In the second round they quickly dispatched North Sanpete 72-59. In their quarterfinal meeting with Summit Academy, they would come up just short falling 48-42, dropping into the consolation bracket, where they faced Richfield in what would be the Spartans final game, 53-49.

Stilson, the 6-3 junior point guard for the Spartans, earned first team recognition. Stilson averaged 12 points per game (ppg.), along with 6.5 rebounds per game (rpg.), 5.0 assists per game (apg.) and 3.4 steals per game (spg.). This was Stilson’s first All-State honor.

Rasmussen, a 6-7 senior center, earned his first All-State nod with a second team spot for averaging 9.4 ppg., 9 rpg. and collecting 1.6 blocks per game. Rasmussen had a dominant outing in the 68-63 win over Richfield with 20 points and 15 rebounds.

Justice, a 6-1 junior shooting guard received an Honorable Mention for his play this season. Justice averaged 12.7 ppg. to go with 2.2 rpg. and 2.8 apg., this was his first All-State honor as well.

Manti’s Reggie Frischknecht, was named the 3A Player of the Year. Frischknecht averaged 13 ppg. to go along with 9 rpg. and shot 68% from the field this season helping the Templars to a 24-2 overall record including an 8-0 region mark and a win in the 3A State Championship game.
