Carbon Caring for Kids is preparing for a long school holiday with Spring Break coming up and they are in need of donations. Coordinator, Marcie Loveless took time to come into Castle Country Radio to talk about the “meal kits” needed for the spring break.

“For Spring Break and Fall Break, we have obviously a longer break. This means these kids are going a longer time without having as much food. So we try to provide something every single day for each day of the break which is sometimes difficult, this is a week long break.  We’re not going to be able to provide everything or else the kits are just way, way, too big. So we are asking individuals to sponsor one child and on our Facebook page the Carbon Caring for Kids, there is a list of items that goes in each kit,” said Loveless. The list of food items needed for the meal kits includes microwavable Chef Boyardees, Tuna/Chicken & Crackers, fruit cups, applesauce pouches/cups, granola bars, and individual snacks.

Once you have purchased the items needed for the meal kits, you will then drop them off at the Loveless residence on or before Tuesday, March 28 at noon. “You can drop them off at my home, which all the address stuff is on that Facebook page. You can drop them off at my home, and there will be a tote out front by my garage, where there are bags. You’ll transfer those, your food into a bag and then double bag it just so the bag doesn’t rip. These are quite a bit bigger bags, usually, we use, a normal weekend we just use a grocery bags, but these are quite a bit bigger to be able to hold all of the food that goes in it,” said Loveless. You can deliver your items to the Loveless residence at 1551 West Cedar Drive in Price.

“We did have a ton of donations at Christmas time, which was incredible, that we had a lot left over.  We’re able to use all of that food, but we have all of the cereal and peanut butter and jelly that we saved for Spring Break. So these kits do not need peanut butter and jelly, and cereal – making it so the kits don’t cost as much. They’ll probably cost between $10.00 to $15.00 depending on what brands you buy of it. Whereas before, it was $20.00 to $25.00 depending on prices and stuff,” stated Loveless. The rollover from the Christmas break has made this year’s Spring Break meal kits very affordable.

If you are unable to make a food donation but would like to help the cause with a monetary donation you may do so my Venmo. To keep up to date with what is happening with Carbon Caring for Kids visit their Facebook page.
