Coming off a thrilling win over Carbon on a snowy Tuesday, the Spartan soccer team traveled to Moab to face the Grand County Red Devils Thursday. Using a big second half Emery earned their second straight region win, 3-1.

In the snow on Tuesday Carbon and Emery had to take it to penalty kicks with the Spartans coming out on top 7-6.  The win was the first of the season, but we are just at the beginning and there is still a lot of soccer to be played before the opening round of the state tournament at the end of April.

The game in Castle Dale last season came down to penalty kicks with Emery taking the 3-2 win, and this game was played just as closely as that contest. On Thursday, Emery and Grand played to a 1-1 tie going into the locker room at the half.

In the second half, Emery came out ready to take charge as they found the back of the net twice while holding the Red Devils scoreless in the half.

Rhett Winter, Ridic Potter and Randy Elmer all scored for the Spartans in the victory.

Emery sits at 2-3 after starting the season 0-3 and are now headed into region play.

They will be back on the pitch on Tuesday in Richfield to face the Wildcats.

Thursday they welcome Canyon View to Castle Dale. The first meeting in Cedar City was cancelled due to weather conditions.

Game time for the game with Canyon View is set for 4 p.m..
