Let the school district in Carbon help serve your child a healthy and nutritious meal over the summer break beginning on Monday, June 5 running through till Friday, July 28. The cost is free for children under the age of 18 years old and adults may eat for $5.00.

“It starts June 5 and it’ll go through till July 28, again our serving time is at 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.  Anybody, even if you’re traveling through, if you’re there, you can stop at any one of those sites and eat. So this is not just for the people in Carbon County or you know if Emery is coming over, they’re welcome to stop and eat or if you’re coming through from Salt Lake traveling on a vacation and need a quick lunch, feel free to stop at any one of those locations,” said Child Nutrition Director, Tonya Jones. There will be a few days during the summer that the lunch program will be closed and that is for the July 4 and July 24 holidays.

Our region is considered an economic disadvantage area so there are several sites available to visit for lunch. “So we’re going to be serving at Sally Mauro Elementary, Bruin Point Elementary, Creekview Elementary, Castle Heights Elementary, and Wellington Elementary. We try to get one spot or two in Price and then one in each of the other places, just so that we have, everybody’s got a chance to go and eat,” said Jones. Anyone and everyone ages 18 and under can eat for free, and again, guests do not have to be from our county to benefit from this program.

“The one thing we are super excited about is we’ve got some new options on our menu. So we’ve got a couple things, we got three new items, so we’ve got lasagna, which is just a cheese rolled lasagna with sauce on it, which will be good to have. We’ve got fish sticks, that we haven’t had for years and we have a new one called Tachos, its kind of like a nacho but it is a potato, you put the potato on the bottom, the meat, then the sauce on top, so I’m kind of excited about it,” said Jones. As per federal guidelines meals are not “grab-n-go” they must be eaten where served on site.

Children and families are encouraged to arrive early to the sites due to the fact that meals are served for a set amount of time. The program coordinators want to ensure that no child goes hungry this summer.
