The Lady Dinos were back on the diamond on Saturday to host an opening round pod in the 3A State Softball Championships. In their opening round match-up Carbon met up with the American Leadership Academy Eagles, making quick work of them and moving on in the playoffs , 18-3.

Carbon battled through the regular season to a 16-6 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark in region play, earning the No. 4 spot and solidifying a first round pod site.

In the opening game with American Leadership, the Eagles put up three quick runs in the top of the first, the Lady Dinos however would come storming back with a double from the bat of Adri Abeyta that drove in Kylan Sorenson and a Makayla Scovill triple that brought in two of her team high four RBI’s.

Carbon would go quiet in inning number two, as they reloaded for the third, putting up six more runs with a pair of home runs in the inning from Gabby Vasquez who drove in Jenna Richards and then three batters later with Brielle Sandoval and Reese Ardohain on base, Sorenson sent one deep over the left field wall to put the score at 14-3, but the Dinos weren’t done.

In the bottom of the fourth, with the score already 16-3, Sorenson sent another double driving in Haven Byerly and Ardohain putting the Dinos up 18-3 ending the game in four.

Scovill had a day for the Dinos, going 4-4 at the plate with four runs scored and a pair of RBI’s. Vasquez was 2-2 with four RBI’s and a run scored, and Sorenson was 2-3 with five RBI’s and a pair of runs scored.

Byerly got the start on the bump but left early, giving up three earned and struck out one. And Scovill registered the win surrendering a hit walking just one and four strike outs.

Up next for the Lady Dinos they will face No. 12 Manti on Thursday, at 10:am.. Carbon and Manti met up the end of March with the Dinos coming out on top 13-0.
