Another successful school year has come to an end for Carbon School District and throughout the year a weekly update has been shared on Castle Country Radio. This was an opportunity for school officials to inform the public of their activities and events that were taking place at their schools. The updates were started with Superintendent Mika Salas welcoming students back to school in August so it’s only fitting that she returned to the radio station to close out the updates as well.

“It’s been a wonderful year; we’ve had so much fun and this is the time that we culminate everything and kind of see the fruits of our labor and so it’s just a ball. It was a great year, it was a long Winter, I will say that, but once the weather kind of lifted a little and the sun came out, and we could celebrate. We have just been celebrating kids and it’s been fantastic,” said Superintendent Salas. Overall, she has been very pleased with how the 2022-2023 academic school year has gone for all schools in the district.

All of the schools have finished up with their end of the year testing and results are slowly trickling in. “We don’t have all of the results back yet, of course we’ll analyze that over the summer and see what we need to do to improve for next year. But as we see them come in, we’re very encouraged by our test scores for sure. Its not the only way we measure success but it is a way that is measured. So we want to make sure we concentrate on it enough to make improvement but its not the only thing, and it’s not the most important thing, the most important thing is making sure our kids are confident and successful in all areas,” said Superintendent Salas. The testing results will help administrators determine what areas will need to be addressed for next year curriculum.

The archery program in the schools has been an extraordinary program for students across the board. “Elementary and middle school and high school really, we have some national champions. We have a bunch of students traveling to South Carolina this summer to participate in worlds. It’s really phenomenal the success we’ve had and the program has just grown exponentially and we’re so excited for our students. It just gives them, again, another way to have success at school, another way to feel connected and we’re so excited about it,” said Superintendent Salas. She is very proud of all the teams and appreciates the time and dedication that students and coaches have put in to the program.

The Carbon School District would like to wish all of their students, faculty and staff a safe and wonderful summer vacation.
