On Tuesday, Oct. 1, court was called into session in the Seventh Judicial District Court by the Honorable Judge Brian D. Bolinder. On the court docket was a competency hearing continuation for Quintin Howard Drollinger, who on May 10 was arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping. After reviewing the State’s findings in Drollinger’s mental health evaluation, Drollinger was found fit to stand trial.

Drollinger, who was arrested after allegedly grabbing a sixth grade girl by the waist and covering her mouth in an attempt to kidnap her, appeared via WebX conference from the Emery County Jail. He was dressed in the standard white shirt and black pants provided by the jail.

Judge Bolinder asked both prosecuting attorney Aaron Lancaster and defense attorney Aaron Wise if they both had time to review the findings from the state’s evaluation of Drollinger’s competency, which both had done. The State had found through its evaluation that Drollinger would be fit to stand trial.

It was after this that Wise requested the Drollinger be released from the Emery County Jail and into home confinement at his brother’s house, as he had been in the jail since May. Lancaster argued against this stating that due to the seriousness of the crimes and with no change in circumstance, Drollinger should continue to be held in jail. Citing the prosecutor’s arguments, Judge Bolinder denied the request.

The final matter brought before the court would be the date and setting of the trial, which Judge Bolinder tentatively set for an in-person hearing on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
