After being road warriors to start the season, The Lady Spartans got their first chance to play in front of the home crowd Tuesday night when the Beaver Beavers came to town. The Beavers came out in the first quarter taking a five-point lead and slowly built it to take a 53-44 win.

Emery started the season with a loss at South Sevier, and then they went 2-1 at the Basin Bash Tournament in Roosevelt.

On Tuesday evening, Beaver came out in the first quarter putting 13 on the board, and held the Lady Spartans to eight to earn a five-point lead. In the second, Emery showed some signs of life looking to turn things around by scoring 12 but the Beavers would come back scoring 13, and claimed the 26-20 lead as they went to the half.

In the third quarter, it was a carry-over from the first half, with the Beavers putting up 14 and doing just enough to keep the lead over the Spartans who managed 13, and expanding the lead to seven 40-33. Keeping with the theme of the evening the fourth quarter was played closely as well but Emery was never able to close the gap that Beaver had built all game long as they closed out the Lady Spartans 53-44.

Despite the loss, Katelyn Nielson led all scorers with 17 adding a pair of rebounds and steals. Megan Stilson scored 10 with three rebounds and three steals, and Addie Hurst threw in nine grabbing three boards and collecting a pair of steals.

Emery will head back to work next Tuesday when they travel to Grantsville.
