Making a shift in the format of its annual fundraiser, Active Re-Entry is preparing to host not one, but two separate car shows across the summer to benefit the nonprofit.
Derek Jensen and Kelly Trollin joined the KOAL newsroom to preview the events and share details about the tie-in opportunity drawing which will be available across both shows.
“We did a 5K for a long time, and as the Fairgrounds Road has gotten busier, we just couldn’t feel like we could give a safe run out there any longer for our consumers and for the public. So we transitioned, and we’ve tried a couple of different things over the years,” explained Jensen of the event’s origin. “When Kelly joined our team late last year, we knew she had some experience doing car shows, and we thought, heck, that might be a pretty unique opportunity for us to be able to try something different.”
The first of the two events comes to the Carbon County Senior Center on Saturday, June 13, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Trollin gave a glimpse at what the show may look like: “We are gonna be up at the senior center, and they have given us the permission to use the whole front of the building. So we do have bathrooms provided … We’re just hoping our consumers can come out, see all these amazing cars, and vote. We did have Timeless Junk make our Trophies again this year. They are amazing. So we’re just hopeful that everybody can come out and have fun.”
While the event is free to spectate, it costs $20 per car to enter, with all proceeds going back to Active Re-Entry. To register, contact Trollin by phone at either 435-650-6270 or 435-637-4950.
Moving ahead, Trollin directed her focus towards the nonprofit’s second car show on Saturday, July 25, as a part of Cleveland’s annual Cleveland Days celebration. “The entry fee is still gonna be $20. But we are working with the mayor, and the way the car show is set up, it’s in between their activities and their fireworks, so go have fun at the Cleveland Days party and then come to our car show and then stay for the fireworks.”
Running concurrently at both car shows, Active Re-Entry will also host an opportunity drawing, with drawings held at both shows.
“The cool thing about the drawing this year is it is $2 per ticket, but that is giving you two chances to win,” explained Trollin. “So if you’re not winning during the first car show, your name and your ticket will go through to the next car show. We do have amazing prizes for both car shows, so if you don’t win during the first one, you still have an awesome opportunity to win a good prize during the second one.”
Closing our conversation, Trollin shared how to purchase tickets: “They can go onto our website or come into our facility. We also are setting up booths randomly throughout the communities. We’ve been to Huntington already and done a booth. We’re gonna do Price and Helper and possibly Castle Dale. So if we can reach all those locations, we’ll post it on our Facebook page. Just come out and see us and help us sell some tickets.”
Active Re-Entry’s series of summer car shows kicks off on Saturday, June 13, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Carbon County Senior Center. The second show arrives as a part of Cleveland Days on Saturday, July 25, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
