Michael John Lewandowski, 76, a man of faith and love of the Lord, died on June 1, 2026, in Wellington, Utah.

Mike was born on March 30, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan, the fifth of nine children of Lenard and Geraldine Lewandowski. When Mike was a toddler, his family moved to North Hollywood, California, where he enjoyed a full and active childhood. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks in 1968.

Mike identified his vocation very early – inspired by doing deliveries for a neighborhood pharmacy as a teenager. Mike graduated from the University of Utah College of Pharmacy.

While at the University of Utah, he met his wife of over 53 years, Karolyn. Love sparked quickly. Their first date was in October 1971, they were engaged the next February, and they were married in September 1972. They resided in Salt Lake City, and then in Anaheim and Santa Maria, California, where their son Nick was born in 1976. They settled down in Eastern Utah in 1978, and their daughter, Kelli, was born in Price in 1980.

Mike served as the director of the medical clinic in East Carbon, embracing the community and being embraced in return. In the early 1980s, Mike became the director of pharmacy at Castleview Hospital, honing his hospital pharmacy skills at the kitchen table after hours. In his 18 years there, Castleview Hospital was a dear home where lifelong friendships were forged. Later on, he completed his career at Smith’s Food & Drug, where he worked alongside his daughter Kelli.

Mike was a rare example of someone who loved his profession. As a pharmacist, he was detailed, expected the best, and cared for his patients. As a manager, he encouraged doing things correctly, not just quickly while always caring for and respecting his coworkers. He was well-liked by nearly everyone – and his family heard countless stories of the positive impact he made on the community through his service as a pharmacist.

Mike was an outstanding father. He meticulously advised on school projects from science fair to algebra homework with resolute desire to best prepare his kids for college and beyond. Long car rides for college visits and cross-country moves provided valuable hours of one-on-one time with each of his children, and no discussion topic was off-limits.

Mike’s type-A personality permeated all areas of his life. Any project would be thoroughly researched and re-researched. Summer vacations were planned to the hour with notoriously detailed dot-matrix-printed itineraries. No project was too insignificant to be done exactly right – from leveling the camping trailer to hanging a picture.

Many thanks to the medical communities of the Mayo Clinic, Huntsman Cancer Institute, and Castleview Hospital who cared for Mike during his 22-year battle with various cancers. Thank you to Dr. Sterling Potter for his generosity of time, knowledge, and friendship. Thank you to Community Nursing Services, especially Autumn and Michal, for outstanding care and compassion. Thank you to Mike’s spiritual families at Price Chapel, Desert Edge Christian Chapel, and Gideons International.

Mike is survived by his wife Karolyn; his children, Nick and Kelli (Bryce) Fowles; his granddaughters, Kara and Gwen Fowles; and his siblings, Richard (Jacqui), Barbara (Jim) Murrieta, Tom (Gail), Len (Barbara), and Annette (Paul, deceased) Zaleski.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Marilyn (Tony, deceased) Robinson, Christine, and Betsy.
