An exciting educational opportunity for youth looking to enter the world of science and spies arrives on Thursday, July 30, as Carbon County 4-H presents ‘Operation STEM Rescue’.

To discuss the camp and the opportunity it looks to provide, 4-H Program Coordinator Sarah Marshall joined the KOAL newsroom for a comprehensive preview of the event.

“The kids will be doing a ton of workshops led by Intermountain Electronics and Utah State University Eastern and by their faculty and also USU Eastern in their technical education program,” explained Marshall. “We’ll have lunch, and they’ll get to do a bunch of 3D activities and 3D printing.”

Taking place on Thursday, July 30, the event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offers a full day of educational activities at a low cost of $5 per participant. Registration is open and available online through 4-H’s ZSuite portal.

This camp adds to the summer offerings provided by 4-H and USU-Extension, giving children and teens the opportunity to stay engaged in their education even when school is out. “ We just got finished with our cardboard boat regatta. So kids got to make a cardboard boat and race them at the wave pool,” said Marshall. “And we also just launched our 4-H entrepreneur program.”

Speaking from a personal perspective, Marshall shared what she enjoys most about these camps: “I love to see the kids grow and I love to watch them participate and just have so much fun and learn. And especially through our 4-H motto, learn by doing.”
