The Emery Lady Spartan volleyball team jumped into the new season on Tuesday with a win on the road at South Sevier. The Rams pushed the Spartans to five sets, but the Spartans came away with the 3-2 win.

The Lady Spartans ended last season with a 9-19 overall record. This season, Cherelle Manzanares takes the helm as the new head coach of Emery.

Emery found themselves in a battle early as the Rams collected a win in the opening set 25-23. The Spartans would fight back in the second set, taking a 25-19 win to even things up at 1-1.  Set number three was all South Sevier as they took a 25-14 win to go up two sets to one.

The Spartans came back firing in set four as they took a hard-fought 25-21 win to tie things up, then turned around in the fifth and final set to take a 15-10 win, claiming the 3-2 win over the South Sevier Rams.

Emery will be off until next Tuesday when they travel to face the San Juan Broncos. On Thursday, August 13, they welcome the Delta Rabbits to the Spartans Center for the home opener.

The contest with Delta will start at 6:30 p.m.
