The Pirate baseball squad was on the diamond at home Friday, welcoming the Valley Buffalo. Green River had no answers for the Buffalo defense as they collected just one hit and fell in four innings, 17-0.

The Pirates have battled through some tough competition this season and are sitting at 1-11 overall and 0-7 in Region 19 play.

Valley took over from the beginning of the contest, putting up its biggest offensive output in the first with seven runs scored. They would add three in the second, six in the third, and one in the top of the fourth, going through the whole contest and giving up just one hit to Green River. Valley claimed the 17-0 victory in four innings.

Jesus Escalante had the only hit for the Pirates, a single with one out in the bottom of the first.

Ernan Mendez got the start in the contest, going two innings, giving up 14 runs, 10 earned, on 12 hits and striking out one. Escalante closed out the contest with three runs, one earned, on four hits with one strikeout.

The Pirates are back on the field on Wednesday, September 2, when they will make the trip to Price to take on the Pinnacle Panthers.
