On Tuesday, the Emery Lady Spartan soccer team welcomed the Lady Dinos to Castle Dale for the first of two meetings on the season. This was a contest pitting two programs against each other that were completely different in terms of personnel. Carbon added three goals in the first half and four more in the second, holding Emery off the board throughout to take the 7-0 win.

The main differences between the two teams can be revealed by looking at their roster. The Lady Dinos are senior-heavy, with 12 seniors on their squad this season, while the Lady Spartans have just a trio of seniors and a very young set of underclassmen.

The Lady Dinos jumped out in the first half, scoring three times while holding the Spartans at bay, taking a 3-0 lead at halftime. Emery came out in the second half and was still unable to shut down the Carbon offense, allowing four goals and resulting in a 7-0 win.

Chrissy Jones, Malia Smith and Naomi Smith all scored two goals each in the contest, with Jones adding two assists and Malia Smith adding one for Carbon. Blythe Bradford added a goal and three assists, and Kayla Jones had an assist in the win as Maddie Barlow posted a shutout for the Lady Dinos in goal.

Carbon will now turn its focus to a revenge game against the Manti Templars on Thursday at home in Price. The Templars bounced the Lady Dinos out of the State Championships in the semifinals last year by the score of 3-2. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.

The Lady Spartans will be on the road to take on the North Sanpete Hawks.
