Jeff Cisneros has resigned as head coach of the Carbon High School basketball program, it was announced Tuesday by athletic director Ted Bianco. The search for a new basketball coach will begin immediately.

“We appreciate everything that coach Cisneros has done for the program, the school and the kids,” said Bianco. “He was my assistant prior to his head coaching tenure, meaning he has spent 12 years will the program. It will definitely be a different situation not having him on the sidelines for basketball games.”

Cisneros was named head coach of the program entering the 2011 season following the departure of Bianco, who accepted the same role with the women’s program. During his five seasons as head coach Cisneros accumulated a record of 43-72 and qualified for the state tournament play-in round three of the five years.

“Right now the program needs more time than I can give this summer with a new job and running off-season leagues for the baseball program,” said Cisneros. “It is a decision I hated to make because obviously I love basketball. I’ve been involved with the Carbon boys program for 12 years and loved it as a coach.”

With summer camps and workouts underway for the upcoming season, Cisneros will continue to oversee the program until a new coach is hired. Cisneros will also remain manager of the baseball program, a position he has held for the previous two years.

The job opening has already been posted on the district’s site and Bianco says the goal is to have a coach in place before the new school year. With no current teaching vacancies the coaching job will not accompany a teaching position.

Cisneros talked about resigning from the position Tuesday on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports. You can listen to the entire interview below.
