The Helper American Legion baseball team managed to keep their unbeaten league record intact as they secured a double-header sweep of Vernal in the final two scheduled home games of the season Tuesday evening.

Zac Bradley pitched six solid innings, giving up just two hits as Helper scored a 6-4 win in game one. Despite receiving minimal hit support, Bradley allowed just four runs and kept Vernal out of rhythm for most of the game. Triton Abeyta worked the seventh inning in a relief effort to earn the save.

Cody Lowe, Tel Gardner and Mitch Olson all registered triples at the plate, and Chase Morgan finished with a double. As a team Helper finished with seven hits, playing in their first game in nearly two weeks.
Helper managed to find their offense in the second game of the double-header as they blasted 14 hits on their way to a 16-2 win.

Abeyta earned the win on the hill pitching two innings. Jarod Lessar and Tel Gardner each pitched two frames of relief work as the group held Vernal to just two runs off of five hits.
Ty Anderson, Kameron Gunter and Tel Gardner all finished with triples. Cody Lowe helped push the offensive surge, finishing with two doubles.

The second game of Tuesday’s double-header did not count towards either team’s league record. This year’s scheduling format has each team meeting each other four times, with only three counting towards the division standings. Both games of the scheduled double-header will impact the division when the two meet again Tuesday, July 19 in Vernal.

Following Tuesday’s games Helper now sits 9-0 in league action and 12-1 overall on the season. Next Tuesday will mark the end of the regular season as the state American Legion Tournment will begin July 25 at Layton High School.
