The 10-year old Carbon Cal Ripken All-Stars opened the Pacific Southwest Region Tournament with a 7-1 loss to the Northern Utah champions Riverton Monday afternoon in Rohnert Park, Calif.

Falling behind early in the contest Carbon never managed to recover offensively in the opening loss. Riley Davis was charged with the loss on the hill despite a solid performance. In three innings of work Davis recorded four strikeouts, allowed six hits and walked two.

The lone run of the contest came from Maizen Prichard, who stole home moments after recording a walk to take first base.

Carbon will have an opportunity to log their first win of the tournament when they meet Long Beach, the champions from Southern California, on Tuesday. Carbon will take the field on Wednesday against the Northern California champion, before getting a break on Thursday.

In order to advance past pool play Carbon will need to finish first or second in their pool, which features five teams.
