The Carbon Dinos suffered a 42-0 loss to the Manti Templars in the first ever meeting between the two schools in Price Friday evening.

Nathan Olsen led the Dinos offensively accumulating 59 yards on 14 carries and Nathan Velasquez finished with 17 yards. Noah Jones and Triton Abeyta shared the quarterback duties. Jones completed one of his six passes, while Abeyta’s lone attempt fell incomplete.

Manti wasted no time taking an early advantage as standout running back Mac Stevens capped off an impressive drive with a five-yard touchdown run. The Templars doubled their lead moments later as Dallin Rasmussen returned an interception 60-yards for a defensive score.

Holding a 14-0 lead in the second quarter the Templars added two more scores before half time. Nate Lee crossed the goal line on a 10-yard run and Mac Stevens scored from 30-yards out on a pass from senior quarterback Marshall Dotson.

Taking a 28-0 lead into the second half, the final two quarters were a mere formality as the Dinos joined five other teams from the 3A North in the loss column during the opening week.

Stevens led the potent Manti attack with 139 yards and two rushing touchdowns. He also finished with 39 yards receiving and one score.

The Dinos will look to log their first victory of the season when they travel to Ben Lomond for a non-region tilt this Friday. Kick-off is set for 7:00 pm.
