The Carbon Dinos were eliminated from playoff contention after suffering a 63-6 loss to the Juan Diego Soarin’ Eagles Friday at home on senior night.

Nathan Olsen recorded the team’s lone touchdown of the night, returning the second half’s opening kick 90 yards for a score. Despite the highlight kick return Olsen had little success on the ground accumulating just 38 yards on 17 carries.

Scoring 26 points in the first quarter, Juan Diego continued their dominance in the second by adding 20 more. The final two quarters were a formality for the Soarin’ Eagles, as they remained tied with Grantsville for second place in the 3A North.

Juan Diego quarterback Zach Hoffman posted one his most dynamic games of the season accounting for four touchdowns. Ryan Baker added two more on the ground, and five others scored between the rushing and passing game.

Tristan Armstrong led the way defensively for the Dinos with 10 total tackles. Izaac Sanchez recorded seven and both Collin Lewis and Taden Gray ended with five. Friday marked the third time this season that a team has scored 60 or more on Carbon this season.

The setback keeps Carbon in a fifth place tie with Union at 0-4 in league play, and eliminates both teams from the playoff picture. One of the two teams will earn their first league victory on Friday when they meet at Union.

Carbon will wrap up the 2016 campaign the following week with a non-region tilt on the road against the Richfield Wildcats.
