The Emery Lady Spartans golf team opened the year with a pre-season match against the Richfield Wildcats Tuesday morning at the Milsite Golf Course in Ferron.

The highlight of the outing came from sophomore Kayla Winn, who registered a hole-in-one on hole No. 5 from the red tees. The epic shot was the first of Winn’s young golfing career.

All six Emery varsity golfers delivered a solid performance to lead the team to an easy 393-302 victory. Sydnee Guymon led the way for the Lady Spartans, finishing with 84 points in the modified stableford scoring system.

Sarah Swasy contributed to the Emery win by scoring 69 points. Sydney Timothy ended with 65 points, and Lainee Jensen 64. Erin Oliverson and Winn notched the final two scores, both ending with 55.

Now with the season off and rolling, Emery will return to action on Wednesday, March 22. That meet will take the team to Green River, and set the stage for a region meet the following week in Moab.
