The Carbon Dinos and Emery Spartans joined 17 other schools at the Matt Burr Track and Field Invitational Saturday in Salina, hosted by North Sevier High School.

Despite the steep competition the Lady Dinos won their second consecutive meet, using six first place finishes to help accumulate 99 points. North Summit finished behind in second with 85.5 points, followed by North Sevier with 76 points. Delta, Manti, Grand, Milford, Gunnison, South Sevier and San Juan rounded out the top ten.

Delta cruised to a first place finish on the boy’s side of the track with 116 points, topping second place Grand by 16. Multiple top three finishes and heavy depth scoring helped Emery to a third place finish, logging 74 points throughout the meet. Beaver, Manti, Carbon, San Juan, North Sanpete, Tabiona and North Summit completed the top 10.

Carbon’s Sarah Ohlwiler continued her dominant start to her senior campaign by adding two individual first place finishes to her resume’. Ohlwiler first top finish came in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 16.03, just ahead of second place Kate Sorenson from Gunnison. Ohlwiler also topped the field in the long jump, finishing with a 4.87 metric leap.

Fellow Carbon senior Sadie Crompton scored a first place finish in the 1600 meters, topping North Sevier’s Ashlin Goble by nearly four seconds with a time of 5:50.36. The win was the second of the afternoon for the Lady Dinos.

Both Ohlwiler and Crompton helped lead the 4X100 varsity team to first place finish. Teaming with Lindsey Blanc and Mikelle Monson, the squad finished with a time of 52.23, topping Delta by 0.02 seconds.

Cache Barrett, Carson Frame, Derek Hillam and Kyle Quinton combined to give the Carbon boy’s team a win in the 4X100. Ending with a time of 45.46, the Dinos comfortably defeated second place Grand, who finished in 46.86.

Barrett, Frame, Hillam and Quinton again teamed up for a first place nod as the team took home first place in the 4X400. Extending their margin of victory to nearly four seconds over second place Delta, the boy’s ended the race with a time of 3:45.55.

Both Carbon and Emery will continue the track and field season on Tuesday, as both participate in the Darrel Gardner Invitational at Emery High School. Tuesday’s meet will act as the only home competition for the Spartans this season.
