Kanyon Beecher’s second half goal was enough to lift the Carbon Dinos past the Juab Wasps in a 1-0 thriller Friday afternoon at home in the Region 12 opener.

Playing to a scoreless tie for the first half of play, Beecher’s goal secured three points in the standings for the Dinos. The loss for Juab is their first of the season after finishing non-region action a perfect 3-0.

Carbon and Canyon View now sit at the top of the Region 12 standings, both with three points after region opening wins. Canyon View, the defending region champions, defeated North Sanpete 3-2 in a back-and-forth contest, also on Friday. Richfield was the lone team idle, and will begin league action on Tuesday against Carbon.

Now 2-4-1 overall on the season, the Dinos have been competitive throughout the non-region portion of the season. Two of the team’s four losses have come by one goal, while another by two. The two wins have also been one goal games, with the other victory coming over Spanish Fork.

Carbon will return to the field on Tuesday against Richfield in the only game this week for the team. Tuesday’s game will also be the first of three straight home games, two of which will be apart of Region 12 action.
