A slow start plagued the Carbon Dinos in a 41-19 loss to the Duchesne Eagles Friday night on the road in a non-region contest.

Unable to put up any points in the first quarter, the Dinos entered the second quarter in a 14-0 hole. After a fairly dominate second quarter for Duchesne, the two teams played an even second half as the Dinos dipped to 0-3, while the Eagles improved to 3-0.

Carbon senior Nate Olson broke the 100-yard barrier for the second time this season, finishing with 118 yards and a touchdown off of 16 carries. Collin Lewis provided a solid complement to Olson with 67 yards off of nine carries and one touchdown.

While splitting time between junior quarterback Noah Jones and sophomore Jerett Atwood, the Dinos relied heavily on the rushing attack. Combined Atwood and Jones completed 5-12 passes and two interceptions. Jones connected through the air with Johnny Scoggins for the team’s lone passing touchdown.

Duchesne senior quarterback Jarett Spencer delivered a highly efficient performance, finishing 6-8 through the air for 163 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground the Eagles managed to spread the ball around as nine different players recorded at least one rush.

Carbon will return to the field on Friday in the final non-region contest of the season as they play host to Ogden on Friday. Ogden will be the second 4A opponent the Dinos have faced this season.
