Plagued by a slow start the Carbon Dinos suffered their fifth straight loss, this time in a 75-56 setback to 4A Spanish Fork on the road Friday evening.

Trailing 24-14 at the end of the opening quarter, the Dinos were held to just five points in the second period. Despite playing even with Spanish Fork in the second half, the deficit proved to be too much as Carbon dipped to 1-6 on the season.

Senior Jordan Vasquez delivered his most potent offensive performance of the season with a 27-point effort, that included five makes from deep. Derek Hillam finished with 10 points, while Ryan Gagon just missed a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds.

Bridger Noles led an efficient Spanish Fork squad with 23 points, while Tanner Olsen finished with 21. Brandon Congdon also reached double-figures with 14 points. The win moves Spanish Fork to 4-1 and marks the fourth straight win for the program.

Now 1-6 overall the Dinos turn their attention to the Region 14 opener on Wednesday at home against the Juab Wasps. Under the new classification Carbon shares the region with six other schools, adding four league games the team’s total compared to last season.
