The Pinnacle Panthers suffered a 71-27 loss to the Panguitch Bobcats in the opening round of the 1A State Championship Tournament at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield Wednesday evening.

Unable to slow, or match the offensive powers possessed by the Bobcats, Pinnacle trailed 32-9 at the end of the opening quarter. Entering the second half with a 50-14 lead, Panguitch cruised through the final two quarters to log the win.

Kaden Daughters scored a team best seven points to lead the Panthers in the loss. Benjamin Scott and Isaiah Wilstead contributed six, while four others scored two.

Acey Orton ended with a game-high 24 points to pace the highly efficient Panguitch offense. Jace Eyre finished with 21 points, and Kanyon Lamb donated 10. Wednesday’s win is the 22nd of the season for the Bobcats, and the 18th by double-digits.

Wednesday’s loss moves Pinnacle into the consolation bracket where they’ll next meet Water Canyon on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.. The one-loss bracket provides a change of scenery, as competing teams will go toe-to-toe at Richfield High School.
