The Carbon Dinos continued the early portion of the baseball season with four games in three days, finishing with a 2-2 record at the Donnie Pymm First Pitch Classic Friday and Saturday in St. George.

Faced with double-header action on Friday the Dinos opened the weekend marathon with a 10-0 loss to the Dixie Flyers. The Carbon offense fired back with a solid performance later in the day, defeating the Payson Lions 14-10.

Playing in two games on Saturday, Carbon started on the right foot with a 7-5 win over Judge Memorial. The Dinos then dropped the weekend finale to Bear River 13-12.

Now sitting 2-3 overall in the non-region portion of the schedule, the Dinos will next take the field on Thursday with a home contest against the Grand Red Devils. Thursday will be the first of four straight games, with three taking place over the weekend at the San Juan Slug Fest.

Below is a complete recap of each game played during the Donnie Pymm First Pitch Classic:

Dixie-10, Carbon-0 Final:
The Dinos failed to record a single hit in the shutout loss. Cody Lowe was the only Carbon player to reach on base safely, taking advantage of Dixie’s only error throughout the game.

Zac Bradley was charged with the loss on the hill, allowing three hits and two earned runs in 3.1 innings of work. As a team the Dinos committed five errors in the field.

Carbon-14, Payson-10 Final:
After failing to record a single hit in the opening game of the tournament, the Dinos responded with 13 hits in a high scoring victory over the Payson Lions.

Collin Lewis finished 2-4 at the plate with four RBI’s and a triple. Bradley ended 2-4 with three RBI’s, a triple and three runs. Jadon Robertson also ended 2-4 and recorded a double, triple and two RBI’s.

Senior Nate Olson notched the win on the mound, allowing just one earned run over 3.2 frames of work. Jaxon Leonard and Adrian Sanchez both entered in a relief effort to help the Dinos in the win.

Carbon-7, Judge Memorial-5 Final:
Returning to the field for a double-header on Saturday, the Dinos started off on the right foot with a two-run win over Judge Memorial.

Six different players registered one hit in a balanced offensive performance. Cesar Laya, and Robertson both recorded two RBI’s, while Bradley ended with one. As a team the Dinos knocked three extra base hits.

Cody Lowe was awarded the win on the mound after throwing four solid innings, striking out two and allowing three hits. Braxton Bennett pitched the final three innings in a relief effort keeping Judge off of the scoreboard to help preserve the win.

Bear River- 13, Carbon- 12 Final:
Despite holding a two-run lead entering the bottom half of the seventh inning, the Dinos were unable to hold off Bear River in the tournament finale.

Triton Abeyta was pegged with the loss on the mound, allowing three earned runs off of six hits in 1.2 innings of work. Carbon used four pitchers in the contest including Lewis, Bennett and Lowe. Combined the team allowed 11 hits, while the field committed three errors.

Laya ended a home run shy of the cycle, finishing 3-5 at the plate to go along with three RBI’s. Lowe ended a perfect 4-4 with two doubles and two RBI’s.
