Nate Olson tossed the first no-hitter of the 2018 Region 14 season as the Carbon Dinos defeated the Providence Hall Patriots 10-0 Tuesday evening at the Helper American Legion field.

Olson, a senior leader on this year’s team, struck out five batters as the game ended after the top of the fifth due to the mercy rule. Three fielding errors and one hit batter prevented Olson from tossing a rare perfect game.

“It was an outstanding performance by Nate throwing that no-hitter,” said manager Jeff Cisneros following the win. “He definitely showed me a lot and kept Providence Hall off balance throughout the game.”

Olson received plenty of run support as the Dinos scored 10 runs off of eight hits. Cody Lowe ended a perfect 3-3 with a triple and three RBI’s at the plate. Zac Bradley went 2-3 with a triple and two RBI’s, while Collin Lewis and Anthony Jones both brought in one run.

Tuesday’s win moves Carbon to 6-4 overall on the season, but more importantly 1-0 in Region 14. The Dinos join Union and Juab as the teams to win their region opener. Providence Hall joins Delta and American Leadership at 0-1.

The Dinos will take the next two days off before returning to the field on Friday to wrap up the season set with Providence Hall. The road tilt is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m..
