The General Election polls were full on Tuesday, November 6 with many voters visiting their appointed polling locations as early as 7:00 am. Officials state that the stream of voters for the day was steady up to the closing of polls at 8:00 pm. The Carbon County Clerk’s office has released the unofficial election results thus far with votes still coming in.

The U.S Senate seat was won by Republican Mitt Romney who received over half of the votes putting him on his way to Washington with 62.43 percent. Utah’s 3rd Congressional District shows on top Republican John Curtis who brought in 66.92 percent.

Closer to home we see that Republican Christine F. Watkins took the votes for State House 69 seat with 72.44 percent of the votes leaving her challenger Democratic Tim Glenn with 27.56 percent.

The seat for Carbon County Clerk/Auditor was a tight race with Republican Seth Marsing bringing in 52.50 percent leaving very close behind his Democratic challenger, Sulika Laulu Merrell with 47.50 percent.

Carbon County Commission race put Republican Larry G Jensen on top with 53.81 percent, followed by Democratic hopeful, Ed Chavez with 23.43 percent and Unaffiliated nominee, Cheryl Lupo with 22.77 percent.

Carbon County Commission/Surveyor seat shows the top percentage of votes as 57.73 for Republican Tony Martines, his challengers Democratic John Jones had 32.31 percent and Independent American candidate, Melvin A Coonrod brought in 9.96 percent.

Jon R Carpenter will be retained in the office of Justice Court Judge of Carbon County and Wellington City.

Two candidates ran unopposed in their offices, Republican Jeremiah Humes for Carbon County Attorney and Republican Jeff Wood for Carbon County Sheriff.

Emery County Attorney put Republican Michael D Olsen on top with 58.97 percent and David A Blackwell, the Unaffiliated candidate with 41.03 percent.

The Emery County Sheriff’s seat will go to the current Sheriff Greg Funk who brought in 59.76 percent, followed by Unaffiliated challenger John Barnett with 40.24 percent.

The Local School Board 4 shows Marie Guymon Johnson with 56.62 percent and Nicky Nielson with 43.38 percent.

Unopposed races were County Clerk/Auditor going to Republican Brenda Tuttle, as well as County Commissioner A to Republican Kent B. Wilson, plus the County Commissioner B seat to Republican Gil L Conover and Local School Board 5 seat to Royd F Hatt.

Both Carbon and Emery County Clerk’s office must have the official count of votes completed by November 19.
