The Emery Lady Spartans moved to 2-0 on the young basketball season after blasting through 4A Spanish Fork 80-38 on the road Friday night.

Wasting little time developing a monumental lead, the Lady Spartans outscored Spanish Fork 21-6 in the opening quarter. Emery ended with an exclamation point by shutting the Dons out in the fourth quarter, ending the game on a 18-0 run.

Senior Megan Jensen led 11 total scorers for Emery with a game-high 22 points and nine rebounds. Kinlee Toomer chipped in with 16 points, six steals and five assists. Kacelyn Toomer also reach double-figures finishing with 10 points.

The hot start allowed head coach Lynn Tuttle to dig deep into the Emery bench. A total of 12 different players logged one state, while 11 scored at least one point.

The 2-0 start runs Emery’s winning streak to an impressive 17. The last time Emery suffered a setback was on Jan. 2, dating back to the region opener last season.

After a slow start to the season schedule wise, the Lady Spartans will participate in two games in three days beginning Tuesday. Up first is a road contest against the Union Cougars. The second game of the week will take place Thursday at home against Springville.
