Senior Kyson Stilson scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Emery Spartans in a 73-46 victory over the Carbon Dinos Friday night in Price.

Jumping out to a 24-10 lead by the end of the first quarter, the Spartans led by as many as 30, improving to 4-1 overall on the season. The loss for Carbon marks the second straight, dipping their overall record to 1-5.

“Everyone was making their shots at the beginning of the game and that made it easier to play defense,” said Emery junior Brax Jensen. “It’s a lot of fun to play point guard when you know your team is going to knock down the shots.”

As a team the Spartans shot an outstanding 53-percent from the field, including an 8-17 night from deep. On the flip side Carbon struggled out of the gate and finished 18-of-51 from the field and 4-21 from the three-point line.

Emery’s Kyler Wilstead logged 13 points and seven rebounds, while Rance Jensen also finished in double figures with 11 points. Jordan Ekker push the bench production with 10 points and Brax Jensen logged nine.

Carbon seniors Derek Hillam and Collin Lewis scored eight points a piece in the setback. Jon Zamantakis and Brady Gagon both finished with seven.

After suffering a loss to 5A Maple Mountain last Friday, the Spartans responded with two dominating wins over Maeser Prep and Carbon. With two weeks still to go before the Region 15 opener on Dec. 21, Emery will travel to meet American Heritage on Wednesday.

The Dinos will now shift their focus to the Region 14, which will take place on the road in Juab. Carbon will follow that up with another road region game against Providence Hall on Friday.
