A massive second quarter defensive performance gave the Carbon Lady Dinos an edge in an eventual 53-40 win over the Union Cougars Wednesday night in Roosevelt.

Keeping their unbeaten record intact Carbon outscored Union 13-3 in the second period, allowing the Lady Dinos to take a 25-12 lead into the break. The two teams played even with one another throughout the final two quarters, giving Carbon the win.

MaKenna Blanc scored a team-high 18 points, nine of which came from beyond the arc, to lead Carbon to its 11th region win of the year. Abbie Saccomanno finished with 12 points and six assists, while Jodi Noyes chipped in with ten.

Tori Ross paced the Cougars with a game-best 20 points as Union dipped to 7-5 in region play. Carly Blake added eight and Lyndee Miller scored six.

Only one game remains on the regular season slate for the Lady Dinos as they prepare to return to the court on Thursday against American Leadership Academy. The contest will mark the final home game of the season, and the final preparation for next week’s state tournament.
