The Southeast Utah Health Department is monitoring the national measles outbreak and how that impacts our local communities. We work closely with our local health care providers, as well as the Utah Department of Health and those labs that test for measles. In situations where it is unclear if there is a confirmed case of measles or not, until we know differently, we proceed with our investigation and make recommendations according to the best information that we have.
The best protection against measles is proper vaccination. We recommend to everyone that they ensure that they have received two doses of measles-containing vaccine (typically MMR vaccine). Individuals that are concerned about exposure should first determine their vaccination status. Individuals that have not received two doses of vaccine may be at risk if they have been exposed to a confirmed case of measles and should take measure to exclude themselves from public events and contact their health care provider.
