Despite holding a slim half time lead the Carbon Lady Dinos suffered a season ending 43-36 loss to the South Sevier Rams in the consolation bracket of the 3A State Championship Tournament Friday morning in Richfield.

Falling to the consolation bracket after suffering a 51-27 loss to the Richfield Wildcats on Thursday, Carbon needed a win to advance to Saturday’s fifth place game. Holding a 19-17 lead at the break, Carbon was outscored 26-17 in the final two quarters.

Makenna Blanc scored a team-high nine points, converting two shots from beyond the arc, while also logging three steals. Senior Abbie Saccomanno scored seven points and Kaytlyn Cripps scored six off of the bench.

As a team the Lady Dinos made 9-of-38 attempts from the field, finishing 23.7-percent for the game. Oddly enough Carbon also shot 9-of-38 from the field in Thursday’s loss to Richfield.

Mackenzie Jones and Kaylie Jenson led the way for the Rams as both scored 11 points. Jenson proved to be a force on the glass as well with a game-high 11 boards. South Sevier combined to shoot 42.9-percent from the field, including 50-percent in the second half.

After finishing division play unbeaten at 12-0 Carbon entered the State Championship Tournament as the No. 1 seed from Region 14. Before Thursday’s tilt with Richfield the Lady Dinos were unbeaten against competition from Utah, sitting a perfect 20-0.
