The Emery Lady Spartans delivered an outstanding performance, winning four of five games at the March Warm Up Classic Friday and Saturday in St. George.

Playing three games on Friday, the Lady Spartans defeated Millard and Judge Memorial by final scores of 17-1 and Virgin Valley 22-1. Emery continued to play lights out Saturday morning with a 9-4 win over North Ridge, before ending the tournament with a 4-3 loss to Dixie.

With minimal action so far this season the weekend trek gives the Lady Spartans some much needed field time ahead of the second region contest of the year on Tuesday against North Sanpete.

Tuesday’s region tilt will be the first of four games in four days for Emery. The team will meet Gunnison at home on Wednesday, before playing back-to-back region games with Grand and North Sanpete on Thursday and Friday.

Below is a complete recap of all five games played this weekend:

Friday, March 15, 2018:
Emery- 17, Millard-1, Final:

Junior Kaylee Price pitched a complete game, giving up only one hit as the Emery Lady Spartans blasted the Millard Eagles in the first game of the March Warm Up Classic in St. George.

Receiving instant run support, Price managed to keep Millard off balance in the four inning contest. While allowing just one earned run Price struck out six and walked four.

Emery wasted little time developing a comfortable lead, scoring nine runs in the first two innings. Holding a 9-0 lead heading into the third, the Lady Spartans put the game out of reach with a six run frame.

Senior Madisyn Alton led the offensive explosions by going 4-5 at the dish and logging six RBIs. Fellow senior AdriAnne Childs ended 1-2 with a home run, while both Raegan Rasmussen and Autumn Stilson brought in two runs each.

Emery- 22, Virgin Valley-1, Final:

The Emery Lady Spartans moved to 2-0 at the March Warm Up Classic in St. George by picking a dominating 22-1 win over Virgin Valley Friday afternoon.

Riding the momentum built from the day’s earlier win over Millard, Emery again picked up a second straight mercy rule win. After allowing one run in the first frame, the Lady Spartans blanked Virgin Valley the rest of the way, while the offense continue to score runs at will.

Junior Braileigh Clark pitched the complete four innings, allowing just three hits and no earned runs, while striking out four. As a team Emery committed two errors in the field.

AdriAnne Childs finished a perfect 5-5 at the plate registering two singles and three doubles, while bringing in five runs. Clark helped her cause with two hits and two RBIs, while Taleigh Price finished knocked a two0run home run.

Emery- 17, Judge Memorial- 1, Final:

The Emery Lady Spartans earned a 17-1 victory over the Judge Memorial, moving the team to 3-0 at the March Warm Up Classic in St. George.

Similar to the previous two games the Lady Spartans dominated the competition, ending the tilt in four short innings.

Freshman Cambrie Jensen pitched the complete game for Emery, allowing just one hit and one earned run. Jensen struck out three batters and allowed only three base runners in the game.

Bailey Huggard ended 2-4 at the plate with two RBIs to help push the Emery offense, which accumulated 19 hits. Taleigh Price added two hits and three RBIs, as the team combined for 14 runs batted in.

Saturday, March 16, 2018:
Emery- 9, North Ridge- 4, Final:

The Emery Lady Spartans moved to 4-0 at the March Warm Up Classic with a 9-4 win over North Ridge Saturday afternoon in St. George.

Winners of three straight on Friday the Lady Spartans continued to hit the ball with efficiency as the team ended with 18 hits. Emery never trailed in the contest, gathering a 4-0 advantage in the second innings and cruising beyond that point.

Kaejha Johnson earned the win on the mound in a complete seven-inning game effort. Allowing just eight hits and four earned runs, Johnson struck out seven batters in the competitive performance.

Raegan Rasmussen ended 2-4 at the dish, recording one single, one triple and two RBIs in the win. AdriAnne Childs finished 3-4 with three singles and a run.

Dixie- 4, Emery- 3, Final:

Despite dominating the competition throughout the first four games of the tournament, the Emery Lady Spartans suffered a slim 4-3 loss to the Dixie Flyers Saturday afternoon in St. George.

Tied 3-3 entering the bottom of the sixth, Emery allowed the game winning run with only one out. The loss ends a four-game winning streak, giving the Lady Spartans a 4-1 record at the five game weekend competition.

Bailey Huggard was pegged with the loss on the hill in a solid performance. Giving up just eight hits and three earned runs, Huggard finished with ten strikeouts.

Hits came at a premium for the Lady Spartans in the final game of the tournament. After registering no less than 17 in the previous four games, Emery was held to just as seven as a team.

Mollee Hurst posted a team best two RBIs in the loss. Autumn Stilson and Arilyn Allred both paced the offense with two hits.
