The Carbon Dino baseball squad had a rough outing against Union on Tuesday, falling 16-2 to the Cougars. The game started out innocently enough being tied twice in the early going, but the top of the sixth inning would be the Dinos down fall.

For the Cougars Lincoln Labrum pitched a complete game going six innings and allow just seven hits. The Dinos couldn’t find an answer for Labrum while he was on the mound. Ten Union players scored at least one run with junior Kobe Gurr getting a home run and five RBI’s.

The story of the day for the Dinos was all about pitching. Freshman Keaton Rich started the game going four innings and allowing five hits and three runs. Adrian Sanchez was brought in going just one inning and giving up five runs (four earned) on one hit while walking three. The mound was then given to Jordan Fossat who gave up four hits, eight runs (six earned) and walking four. Carbon found themselves in trouble often in the sixth as the bases stayed loaded and they surrendered 13 runs.

One bright spot for the Dinos was the play of Keaton Rich. The freshman went two-of-four while scoring a run. Braxton Bennett also had one hit and scored once and Kaleb Nelson had one hit plus an RBI.

The Dinos are now 6-1 in Region 14 play after a game that stands out as their worst loss of the season. Carbon will need a short memory as they must prepare to face the same Union team on Thursday in Roosevelt. Union is now 4-2 in region with their two losses coming at the hands of Juab who at 4-0 remains the only undefeated team in conference. Carbon will face Juab for the final two games of the season.

The game on Thursday in Roosevelt is scheduled for a 3:30 start. Carbon’s next home tilt will be a non-region match-up against Summit Academy at 1pm this Saturday at Gardner Field in Helper.
