Despite solid consistency in the middle innings, the Carbon Dinos suffered a third consecutive loss with a 5-4 setback in a non-region contest Saturday afternoon at Ernie Gardner Field in Helper.

Trailing 3-0 entering the third inning, the Dinos scored one run in four straight frames. Entering the bottom of the seventh down by one Carbon was unable to plate the equalizer, leading to the eventual loss.

Senior Collin Lewis continued to strive at the plate, finishing 3-4 with three singles. Keaton Rich also posted a productive day at the plate, ending 3-5 with a double and RBI. As a team the Dinos accumulated 10 hits, compared to nine from Summit Academy.

Nathan Richens was pegged with the loss on the mound after giving up four earned runs and eight hits over five innings. Kaleb Nelson entered the game in a relief role, recording three strikeouts and allowing one hit in two innings.

Saturday’s contest was the second in as many days for Carbon, following a loss to Union on Friday. The Dinos will have an opportunity to get back into the win column on Monday with a trip to Castle Dale against the Emery Spartans.

Following Monday’s game against Emery, Carbon will take a lengthy break before wrapping up the season with a back-to-back against the Juab Wasps. The first of the two games is scheduled for April 23 on the road.
